The Clamagore Restoration and Maintenance Association was formed in 2013 to try to save the USS Clamagore SS-343 from being reefed off the coast of Florida. A group of retired submarine sailors and other concerned citizens got together and searched for a way to keep this last of a kind submarine from becoming history. They developed a business plan to take the submarine from Patriots Point and putting it up on land in conjunction with the proposed Hunley Museum. The Hunley submarine is currently housed at the former North Charleston Naval Base. When the restoration and preservation of the Hunley is completed it will be placed at a museum site at the north end of the base. It is hoped that the Clamagore can be placed on a land site near this museum.
